These workshop series will provide fundamental information and practices for students and parents about how to protect themselves and their children from internet and social media dangers and drama.

Problem

While the internet and social media can be extremely useful tools for young adults/teens and their parents, these “apps,” instant messaging, chat rooms, texts, emails, and social networking sites can also cause anxiety and danger for children and their parents.

Solution

During the workshops, we will share the strategies and expert tips so that everyone have the information that need to communicate with their child about how to make the safest possible decisions with technology.

Target Beneficiary

Who?

The workshop can be offered for groups fewer than 50, or in a larger assembly type setting for over 50 participants. The target audience is primary and secondary students and parents together. Each workshop can be delivered at a site and offers sufficient time for questions and answers.

Why?

Today’s children represent the first generation to grow up entirely in a digital world. They have spent their entire lives using computers, video games, webcams, digital music players, mobile phones, mobile apps and everything else the digital world has to offer. In a sense, our kids are all “native speakers” of a digital language.

Size and measurement

At the initial start, the target group size will be 50 students/parents who will undergo the workshop.

What?

  1. Understanding of general online rules, overview and social media safety
  2. Parental confidence that they are acting to protect the child from harm
  3. Skill in identifying and reporting concerns to appropriate authorities

How is it measured?

  1. Improve understanding of where to find other resources available from Internet Service Providers (ISPs), law enforcement and other sources
  2. Improve parents’ ability to talk to their child about online expectations and techniques for monitoring their child’s digital spaces
  3. Improve a child’s ability to use the Internet effectively, how to talk to their friends about privacy and what you need to know to be safe
