‘Lets Talk About Life!’: TED-inspired Talks with 300 SM St. Anne girls in Labuan
While most young teen girls are more than equipped to succeed academically, not many have the opportunity to learn about other important aspects of life – handling different emotions, finance, problem-solving skills and succeeding against the odds. With this project, we are hoping to broaden the horizons of young women on these topics and plant the seeds in their mind that there are many ways they can learn to improve different aspects of their lives.
We believe that a woman empowered with this knowledge will carry this skill forward to her family and future generation.
Tell us how can we improve this post?

All our life, the only formal classes we take are academic-based. Whilst we’re left to learn the most important things on our own or by chance – emotional management, financial skills, problem-solving skills, and succeeding against the odds, among others. This project aims to help the youth at a critical point of their lives within these areas, in hopes that they will do better as individuals, ultimately having a positive effect on their immediate families and communities.

This project will impact 300 young women between the ages of 13-16 who are at an impressionable point in their lives and go to SM St. Annes, an all-girls school in Labuan. Young women have so much potential, but may be limited by the resources available to them in the small community of Labuan. Young women who will grow up to be elder sisters, employees, leaders, partners, wives and mothers who many will look up to for inspiration and direction. Young women who have the power to change their communities for the better.
The smallest way to measure the size of the impact would be through immediate feedback received after the talk. On the next level, impact measured can be through the feedback received from their teachers on general attitudes and performance of these students months after the talk.
The teachers and headmaster of SM St. Anne, the school where the target beneficiary go to, are fully supportive of the project.
The alumnis of SM St. Anne are keen to share their life lessons and time to make this project a success.
