Environment Sustainability and Green Technology
The objective of this project is to give a hands-on experience and exposure to children age 7-17 to practice good habits regarding the environment and to help conserve the environment. The target participants would be children living in rural areas as they have minimum exposure towards environmental conservation. The impact of this project would be a cleaner surrounding where these chldren resides and the children practicing the 3R concept – reduce, reuse and recycle. We hope to reduce the use of plastic and other non-biodegradable materials amongst children.

One of the limitations of residing in rural area is the lack of exposure towards environmental concerns. Although Penang has commenced segregation of waste, such practices did not reach the rural areas. People living in rural areas dump their garbage without segregation. To assuage this problem, we would like to promote environmental sustainability at younger age. We believe that children, if nurtured from young, would be able to appreciate the importance of environmental sustainability in their lives. We would like to educate them on the importance of reduce, reuse and recycling, practice a ‘minimalist’ lifestyle to help conserve the environment for their future. Since September 2017, a slight prolong rain would result in mini-flooding and one of the causes is the surrounding rivers. By ensuring clean river and drains, we hope to reduce the problem of mini-flooding in the near future. Children who participate in this programme will be introduced with sustainability goals and how they could contribute towards it. Next, the children will be exposed to the good habits that help conserve the environment followed by hands-on exercises to clean up our surrounding. Participants will be trained with the the 3R concept (reduce, reuse & recylce). We will also have activities such as mud-ball making for the rivers, planting bakau trees and select a location for recycling.
Possible solutions are as follows:
a. Educate the children on 3R.
b. Select a location for cycling – to put recycling boxes
c. Send the recycle items to community, individuals in need.
d. Engage children in activities to reduce waste, to clean up their surroundings, etc.
Children age 7-12 from SK Padang Menora, SK Lahar Yooi and SK Padang Chempedak, Seberang Perai Utara, Pulau Pinang. Children age 13-17 from SMK Guar Perahu, SMK Guar Perahu Indah and SMK Bakti, Seberang Perai Utara, Pulau Pinang. These children are from underprivileged families with little or no access to waste segregation or environmental conservation.
Measurement of the size of the impact:
a. The amount (volume and value) of waste in the participating schools.
b. The amount (volume and value) of recycled items in schools and events conducted under this programme (e.g. free market, sending recycle items to communities or individuals in need)
Supporters of this projects are:
a. All the school teachers and administrative staffs
